For this essay students will be required to research a place of the World Heritage List. The essay needs to describe the site and explain its significance according to the themes of the unit and argue why it is significant in terms of world history.
The essay must demonstrate scholarly research and be up-to-date. This requires referring to recent publications (i.e. the past 10 years) and one primary source (first person accounts about an event or person related to the site, or the site itself e.g., speeches, diaries, government records, newspaper articles, archaeological site reports, government reports etc.). The student should cite at least six scholarly publications. The essay should be 2,000 words, excluding references, footnotes or captions. Illustrations can be used but must be relevant to the text and appropriately captioned.
