Current American Indian education laws

Based on the two scenarios described below, develop a response to each one based on the following
aspects:
 Current American Indian education laws
 Relevant past American Indian education court cases
 Principles of American Indian leadership
 Relevant American Indian education conceptual models
Scenario 1
A local school district intends to apply for funding from the US Department of Education for a program
to help meet the culturally related academic needs of American Indian students in the school district.
One family in the school district refuses to send their school age children to school because they believe
they would do a better job at home teaching their kids about their American Indian heritage. The family
are all citizens of a federally recognized tribe that has called the school, left a message about their
support for the family, and asked what the school has in place to help meet the tribal needs of students
in their district. The tribal reservation community is over 250 miles away from the school district.
Scenario 2
The new president of the United States has just won the 2020 election by a landslide vote, due in part to
the overwhelming number of American Indian people who voted in the national election. She is very
aware of the failings of the US in the area of Indian education, and wants to reform the federal
executive branch to better respond to the needs of tribes and tribal citizens in the area of education.
She is looking for ideas on how to do that, and just contracted with First Nations Education (FNE), LLC to
provide a list of ideas in that regard. You were just hired by FNE as an educational consultant and your
first job is to develop that list.
