Details: Students are asked to write a 2,500 word essay on one of the topics listed below.
The essay should not exceed the word limit. Essays that exceed the word limit by more than 10% (250 words) will be deducted 10 percentage points.

The essay should be word-processed, in Times Roman, font 12 pt, 1” square margin, and single spaced.

Students are expected to show capacity to select, compile and categorise material from a number of sources into a coherent body of knowledge. They must show an understanding of key theoretical frameworks and apply appropriate concepts to the assessment of evidence leading to the appreciation of practical policy implications of globalisation from the point of view of emerging markets and MNCs. This is in accordance with the learning outcomes. The assessment criteria are: knowledge and content, relevance and discourse, clarity and communication, organisation and language, references. The 5 marking criteria are equally weighted.

For this piece of coursework it is important to demonstrate that you have detailed knowledge of International Business in a specific Emerging Market. During the lecture & class sessions students will be required to select an Emerging Market example and students will be directly required to demonstrate the depth of their research using the ‘Passport’ facility in Brunel Library when answering the selected coursework question.

(a) Comment on its industrial structure.
(b) Collect data for selected macro-economic indicators for this economy such as GDP, Balance of Payments, Imports/Exports, Inward/outward FDI, inflation, Unemployment, etc., for the last 10 years. What can you conclude from this data? (30 marks).
(c) Using suitable examples from countries with emerging markets, discuss the desirability and possibility for establishing a worldwide set of laws for international business. Ensure that you pay particular attention to the different political & cultural aspects including levels of corruption and Intellectual Property Rights. (70%)
