You are required to research into your chosen topic highlighting aspects of particular impact and assessing their relevance to engineers. You should also express your own opinion and thoughts. You will deliver this in the form of a written report.

The Environment: Is the environment a concern for engineers? If so, why, and what can be done about it? What is the role for an engineer?

Industrial Accidents: Why and how do they happen? Can an engineer predict or prevent them? Are there acceptable accidents that we have to live with? What about the idea that we learn by making mistakes? Can an engineer make the world safer?

Unions and Management: The engineer is seen as being more on the management side: how does an engineer relate to other workers, and to the unions? What are the problems or advantages of unions? What obstacles or help are unions to an engineer? Us and them – where do you fit?

Ownership of Intellectual Property: What are the ethical and moral issues related to reverse engineering, intellectual ownership, trademarks, copyright, and royalties? What are distinctions between legal versus ethical infringement?

Copyright: How would you go about copyrighting something, what can you copyright, and what protection does it give you?

Electromagnetic Radiation: Is it dangerous to humans? Discuss the issues and prevention, and interference with other electronic devices.

Culture Differences: How will you work and relate with people from different cultures? Challenges associated with working in the global community with reference to Crosscultural awareness including indigenous communities

Morality and Ethics: What is ethical behaviour in the workplace?

Ergonomics: Mass production, efficiency, modern management practices. What are the tradeoffs against worker boredom, “sickies”, and unrest? Efficiency and safety in the workplace
